Types of Marijuana Establishments

Hello Everyone! I want to say thank you for reading and if you haven’t yet, please check out our previous posts!  We appreciate feedback and would love to hear about what our readers would like to learn.  Let us know!

A few weeks back I wrote about living near a marijuana business and the foreseen pros/cons that many town officials are dealing with at the moment.  For this post, I’d like to share with you the exact types of businesses that may be on the way to a town or neighborhood near you.  Many people think a marijuana business just means a dispensary or a store that will sell you weed, its not just that, there are many other types of establishments that all play a significant role in the cannabis industry.

The Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) released a document about a week ago informing the public on the different types of marijuana establishments that we will see in our state communities and the regulations they will abide by.  It is important to make note that ALL of these establishments are considered part of the marijuana industry, and must follow the same laws, despite being different kinds of businesses.

The different types of establishments are the following, provided by the CCC:

·      Marijuana Cultivators -  may cultivate, process and package marijuana, to transfer and deliver marijuana products to marijuana establishments, but not to consumers

·      Marijuana Product Manufacturer -  an entity authorized to obtain, manufacture, process and package marijuana and marijuana products, to deliver marijuana and marijuana products to marijuana establishments and to transfer marijuana and marijuana products to other marijuana establishments, but not to consumers.

·      Marijuana Retailer -  an entity authorized to purchase and deliver marijuana and marijuana products from marijuana establishments and to sell or otherwise transfer marijuana and marijuana products to marijuana establishments and to consumers

·      Marijuana transporter - An entity may only transport marijuana or marijuana products when such transportation is not already authorized under a marijuana establishment license

·      Independent Testing Laboratory - an entity that does not hold any other type of marijuana establishment license and is properly accredited to perform tests on marijuana and marijuana products

I’d like to take a poll for next week’s post on a few of the entities that I can dive deeper  in detail to.  I will focus on the different tiers of Cultivators but also focus on the interesting details to be a Transporter. Which one would you like to read about?
